The collaboration is founded on a shared ambition to explore new approaches to literature and culture in an international context, creating opportunities for young artists, audiences and cultural institutions to learn from one another and develop projects across the North Sea.
This partnership has led to literary initiatives, including ReWrite and Cities Untold, which have connected emerging writers from Denmark and the UK through creative exchange and collaboration.
ReWrite
ReWrite took place in spring, summer and autumn of 2025 and was a literary development programme for young writers from Aalborg, Aarhus and Manchester, created in collaboration between Ordkraft, LiteratureXchange, Manchester Literature Festival and The Writing Squad.
Six young writers from the collaborating cities – Asta Birkler, Loc-An Thi Nguyen, Cody Sander, Johanne Bisgaard, Tallulah Howarth, and Elizabeth Gibson – were connected to explore borders and boundaries of language through literature, and the result was published in a project issue.
Each of the participating cities hosted a residency and four-day workshop programme, culminating in public performances and presentations at the local literature festivals – Ordkraft in April, LiteratureXchange in June, and Manchester Literature Festival in October.

Cities Untold
Cities Untold was a collaborative literary project running from 2021 to 2023, developed by Manchester Literature Festival, LiteratureXchange in Aarhus, Ordkraft in Aalborg and the Manchester-based writers' collective Young Identity.
The project brought together six writers from Aalborg, Aarhus and Manchester — Cassandra Marie Geyti Sørensen, Silas Toft, Marie Laurberg Nielsen, Selina Rom Andersen, Billie Meredith and Safwat El-Sanossi — who travelled between the partner cities and created new work inspired by the cities’ secrets and hidden stories.
Their work was presented at the respective cities’ literature festivals in Manchester, Aarhus and Aalborg and published in a shared anthology, offering new perspectives on the stories, communities and connections that shape contemporary urban life.
